New to working out? Here’s a round up of fitness events that would be good for a beginner just starting out.

Go Sport/Asics Run Series

Dubai – October 14, December 2, January 27, March 3, April 21

Start off with the 3km and work your way up through the 5km, 10km and 15km runs. The events are for all fitness levels, from social to serious runners, and at the October event, a holiday to Thailand is up for grabs. The October runs start at 7am and costs Dh165 for adults and Dh115 for children, however a discount of 50 per cent applies for those who sign up as a family. Register at www.premieronline.com.

5 Star Aquathlon

Abu Dhabi – October 21, December 16, March 24

This family event includes a swim and run – the shortest distance being a 100-metre swim and 200m run for children ages 4 to 10, the longest distance is a 750m swim and 5km run for those 16 years and older. The event, held at Emirates Palace, can be completed individually or as a team. Entry costs from Dh90 and the event starts at 6.30am. Register at www.premieronline.com.

Electric Run

Dubai – November 4; Abu Dhabi and Sharjah dates TBC

This night-time 5km fun run is made brighter by glow sticks, glow-in-the-dark paint and colourful, themed wonderlands. Not all dates have been announced, so visit www.electricrun.ae to stay up-to-date.

The Color Run

Dubai – November 12; Abu Dhabi – March

Tickets usually sell out fast for this popular worldwide fun run, dubbed the “world’s happiest 5K”. Participants start out in spotless white, but end the run coated in coloured chalk powder. Visit www.thecolorrun.ae for dates and registration information.

Walk2016

Abu Dhabi – November 11

Take steps to prevent, manage and raise awareness about diabetes at Walk2016 at Yas Marina Circuit. The annual walk, organised by the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre in Abu Dhabi, attracts more than 20,000 people and costs Dh10 to enter. Visit www.diabetesuae.ae for details.
