As the roll-call of new hotels in Asia shows no sign of slowing down, travellers are seeing an increasing number of big-name brands adopting bold designs and exciting architecture. From ultra luxury to more affordable four-stars, this current collection will set the pulse racing.
ROSEWOOD PHUKET, THAILAND
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has opened its first property in South East Asia. The Rosewood Phuket is on 43 acres of land in the south-west of the island, with a 600-metre-long private beach. There are 71 pool pavilions and villas, several restaurants and a large spa. Rooms cost from Thb32,286 (Dh3,640) per night including taxes.
ROSEWOOD PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA
Fans of the Rosewood brand of hotels can now book into the brand new Rosewood Phnom Penh. Occupying the top 14 floors of the ultra-modern, 188-metre tall Vattanac Capital Tower in the centre of the Cambodian capital close to Wat Phnom, the hotel offers 175 rooms including 37 suites. SUKHOTHAI BANGKOK, THAILAND
One of Bangkok's best-known luxury hotels will complete a 7-month renovation next month. The Sukhothai Bangkok on the South Sathorn Road, designed by architects Kerry Hill and Edward Tuttle, has 210 rooms, restaurants and a spa amid gardens and lotus ponds. REETHI FARU RESORT, MALDIVES
In the northern Raa atoll, the 4-star Reethi Faru Resort has opened on the private island of Filaidhoo. The resort has 5 restaurants, a spa, watersports, a dive centre and gym. Rooms cost from Dh1,426 per night including taxes.
FOUR SEASONS KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA
In the Malaysian capital, the new Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur is taking reservations from July 1, with a special opening offer for advance bookings. MERCURE MALDIVES KOODOO RESORT
In the far south of the country, the four-star Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort, is the first island resort with its own airport meaning the island can be reached via a domestic flight from Male rather than a seaplane. The hotel, on Gaafu Alifu atoll, has 68 villas, including 43 over the water and 25 on the beach, and is built using local materials. AZERAI CAN THO, VIETNAM
Can Tho, the largest city in Vietnam's Mekong Delta, 170km south of Ho Chi Minh City, has this month seen the opening of a luxury resort on an 8-acre private islet, surrounded by mangroves and banyan trees. The 60-room resort is reached by a wooden ferry and offers a 32-metre swimming pool, a spa, shop, gym and three restaurants, as well as tennis courts. SOFITEL LUANG PRABANG, LAOS
Visitors to Luang Prabang, Laos's scenic cultural capital on the Mekong River, can now check into the five-star Sofitel Luang Prabang. The hotel is built into a historic colonial mansion built in the 1900s and has 25 "villa suites". The hotel has three restaurants, a spa and an Olympic-size swimming pool. CAPELLA UBUD, BALI, INDONESIA
Capella Hotels and Resorts, which has luxury hotels in Germany, Singapore, China and the Caribbean, has opened a new hotel in Bali's cultural capital, Ubud. Built as an ultra-luxury tented camp in jungle surroundings 20 minutes from town, the hotel offers 22 extravagant, individually-themed tented "retreats" in "1800s European settler" style, and one two-bedroom lodge. JW MARRIOTT PHU QUOC, VIETNAM
Visitors to the southern Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc in the Gulf of Thailand can now check into five-star luxury at the J W Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa. COMO UMA CANGGU, BALI, INDONESIA
Como Hotels & Resorts is opening a luxury resort in the fashionable enclave of Canggu on the south coast of Bali. The Como Uma Canggu has 52 rooms and suites, 55 one- and two-bedroom residences and 12 three-bedroom penthouses, along with a large spa and wellness centre, and a choice of restaurants. Bookings are available from February 15 and rooms cost from US$242 (Dh889) per night, including taxes.
THE PENTHOUSE, KOLKATA, INDIA
In the British Raj's former capital Kolkata, The Penthouse, a nine-suite historic boutique hotel, has been opened by the company behind Glenburn Tea Estate. Interiors blend luxury with original features; some rooms have garden terraces and outdoor Jacuzzis, and there is a rooftop terrace with a pool and restaurant, overlooking the Victoria Memorial. Hyatt has opened the first Andaz hotel in Asia in central Singapore. The Andaz Singapore is on Fraser Street, close to Kampong Glam, the Malay Heritage Centre and Marina Bay. The hotel has 342 rooms from level 26 and up of the new Duo skyscrapers and features a rooftop pool, several restaurants and a 24-hour fitness centre. ALOFT JAKARTA, INDONESIA
Marriott International has opened its first Aloft property in Indonesia with the Aloft Jakarta Wahid Haysim. The centrally located hotel has 180 rooms and a pool, gym, restaurant and café. There is an opening offer on rooms, from Idr966,790 (Dh263) per night including taxes and breakfast.
