WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA // Nahus Angula, the prime minister of Namibia, has called for a decade of action on road safety. At the launch of Make Roads Safe, an awareness campaign, Mr Angula said that the "epidemic" of road deaths in Africa is as serious as the threat posed to the continent by HIV and AIDS. "The current rate of fatalities at between 250 and 300 deaths per year as a result of road accidents is just too high for the country's low traffic volume and population," he said. A draft policy on road safety will be among the first responses of the government in this campaign.
