Feast your eyes on the Nissan GT-R50 – the only prototype of the limited-edition sports car made its Middle East debut in Dubai today (January 28), as part of a world tour showcasing the collaboration with Italian company Italdesign.
Only 50 examples of the GT-R50, which made its world bow in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, will be produced.
To make the model completely bespoke, each car will have a unique colour scheme – Nissan will keep a database of each customer's requests and won't allow any two cars to be the same.
Fifty is a significant number in many other ways for the GT-R50, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first GT-R this year and half a century of Italdesign last year.
And with 120hp added on top of the GT-R's standard 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, the total of 720hp is 50 per cent more horsepower than the first GT-R's figure of 480hp.
Instead of being numbered from one to 50, each car will be pinned to a year during history of the GT-R selected by each customer, with bespoke elements added to reflect the year of choice.
Be prepared to dig deep for such uniqueness, however: the eye-watering starting price is €990,000 (Dh4.1 million) – and that is before taxes and options, which given the bespoke nature of the cars, will almost certainly push up the price considerably.
Each car takes eight weeks to produce, and the first lucky customers can expect delivery of their Dh4.1m-plus Nissan in March or April next year.
As well as being a fixture on the roads of the Emirates, the cult car nicknamed "Godzilla" has officially recognised history in the UAE: in 2016, a modified GT-R Nismo piloted by Japanese driver Masato Kawabata set a world record for the fastest vehicle drift, with a maximum of 304.96kph at Fujairah International Airport.
