Car fans trundled into California on Sunday to get a glimpse at the automotive splendour assembled at the 2019 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

The annual US event is the culmination of the Monterey Car Week and is considered the most prestigious gathering of its kind. It featured both new and classic vehicles.

Spectators assembled at the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links for the motoring bunfight, where the Pacific Ocean served as a spectacular backdrop for all the shiny vehicles on display.

Bugatti, Lotus, Aston Martin and Lamborghini all showed off their latest offerings, but all eyes were on the classic vehicles which had been shipped in from around the globe for a competition where authenticity, function, history, and style were key judging points.

And, standout among these, was a 1931 Bentley 8-litre Gurney Nutting Sport Tourer which won the coveted Best of Show gong.

The Concours, which dates back to 1950, was a welcome distraction from recent events at the Monterey Car Week as it happened the morning after a slip-up at an auction which saw a Dh73m 1939 'Porsche' fail to sell.
