The American fashion label Diane Von Furstenberg has just used a hijabi model to advertise its latest range. In a first, the British model Ikram Abdi Omar stars in the advertising campaign for a new collaboration for the online boutique The Outnet.
Entitled The Outnet X Diane Von Furstenberg, the capsule is a tight edit of just 13 pieces in bold blue and black, ranging from a straight leg jumpsuit, to a side ruched skirt in a stylised flower pattern.
Following the Von Furstenberg aesthetic, the collection is well cut, to be both flattering and elegant, and extremely comfortable. There are even two versions of Von Furstenberg’s famous wrap dress (first launched in 1974), here in diagonal stripes, and in a floral with a collar shirt neck line.
In the images, Omar wears a distinctive bias cut striped skirt, long drop earrings and a black top knot hijab, and her look is finished with a slick of cobalt blue eyeshadow.
Born in Sweden, and raised in Britain, Omar is of Somali heritage and seemingly poised on the brink of stardom. As well as bagging this job she was chosen as one of the stars for the last festive campaign for the fashion house Burberry.
