Six of the Best: Highlights from Index

  • English
  • Arabic

There was a lot to admire at this year's Index exhibition in Dubai this week, as design talent from around the world arrived to showcase their latest products. Here are our six favourite finds

1&2 Danish delight

Kollektion and Co has extended its portfolio of cool Scandinavian brands to include Muuto, one of our favourite Danish homeware companies. There was plenty to covet on the Kollektion stand, from new wallpaper designs by Mr Perswall and beautiful, reasonably priced glassware by Sagaform. But Muuto's Bulky Family tea set (1) and multicoloured, irregularly shaped Plus salt and pepper grinders (2, also in black and white) made us smile (and swoon) as soon as we spotted them. Bulky Family, from Dh189 for set of two cups, Plus salt and pepper grinders, from Dh319, Kollektion and Co, Sheikh Zayed Road, www.thekollektion.com

3 Under cover

Carre d'Art's outdoor accessories add a touch of glamour to any outdoor space, and these delicate leaf-shaped sunshades are no exception. They come in a range of colours and are made from either Batyline mesh or Tahiti fabric. If you fancy the set, there's  matching sun lounger and table too. 4 Light fantastic

There were plenty of lighting companies at Index this year, but the Frame pendant light by Italian company Terzani really caught our eye. A metal sheet shaped like delicate coral sits within a cylindrical cube, emitting a gentle light. The frame comes in white, red, gold or silver and in two sizes, 7cm and 10cm long. Price available on request, www.terzani.it

5 People power

Boxed made its Index debut this year, showcasing a handful of the handmade products available on its website. Among these was the People print by Judy Kaufmann, an A3 size digital illustration depicting a series of figures holding hands. The limited-edition piece is printed on Epson Archival Matte Paper and comes hand signed and dated. Dh154, www.boxedonline.com

6 Shades of green

The Australian company Pacific Green creates sustainable furniture and lighting products out of Palmwood. The company, which in 2010 was invited to participate in Shanghai's World Fair as an ambassador for responsible design and manufacturing, presented a number of its most popular furniture products at this year's exhibition, but the Teepee lamp caught our fancy. The design of the lamp borrows elements of traditional African and North American artefacts. Dh3,490, www.pacificgreen.net
