Make cleaning bearable

As far as we’re aware, nobody actually enjoys cleaning, so here are some simple tips to help you make the process as painless as possible.

Have a plan. Know where you’re going to start and finish. Some people begin at the farthest point from the front door and work their way back. It’s certainly a good idea to start in one corner of the house or room and work your way around. A strategic approach will save time and allow you to take stock of your progress.

You don’t have to do a full clean every time you put the rubber gloves on. The mere idea can be off-putting. Your bathrooms and kitchen should be priority areas, as they are hot spots for germs, but it’s OK to clean the rest of your home in rotation.

Clean as you go along. Simple things like giving your shower cubicle a wash-down every time you get out of it or rubbing a disinfectant wipe across your kitchen counters every evening will mean that there’s less to do when it comes to the big clean. A stitch in time and all that.

It might sound obvious, but try to distract yourself. Get out the hands-free set and make all those calls that you haven’t had time for, or listen to a podcast or an audiobook. Anything to take your mind off the task at hand.
