Who doesn't love Tupperware? Here are a few tips to ensure that those handy storage containers stay stain- and odour-free.
If you're trying to get rid of unseemly odours, pour two or three spoonfuls of baking soda into your container, fill it with lukewarm water and leave it for a few hours. Then rinse thoroughly with warm soapy water.
For more persistent smells, place a couple of tablespoons of ground coffee into your Tupperware, seal it and put it aside for a day or two. The coffee should absorb any unpleasant odours. Alternatively, fill the container with crumpled newspaper and seal it firmly. Remove the newspaper after a day or two and rinse the container with warm, soapy water.
If you're trying to get rid of stains, steer clear of scourers and abrasive cleaners. Instead, fill your Tupperware with warm water and the juice of a lemon. Then scrub with a sponge. A solution of one part vinegar to five parts water will also do the trick.
Of course, prevention is always better than cure so, in future, before you put any tomato-based sauces, soups or products in your Tupperware, line the container with a layer of olive oil. This should minimise staining. And remember to let any oil-based liquids cool before placing them in the container.

Who has been sanctioned?
