New York-born bakery and restaurant Clinton St Baking Company, which is known for its vast breakfast menu and wholesome dishes, has opened a new branch at The Dubai Mall. Located above the ice rink, the outpost features classic American diner interiors and favourites such as waffles, cakes, pies and pancakes with warm maple butter. The branch will also introduce a special Clinton Street "Dubai Mall" burger, exclusive to the venue, which gives foodies the chance to add more ingredients to the burger and "build it as high as the Burj Khalifa". Celebrated in Venice every year, the Venetian Carnevale, with its elaborate masks and jaunty music, is a big part of Italian culture. The Ritz-Carlton is now bringing a little bit of the fiesta feel to the capital. Until Tuesday, February 25, guests can indulge in a colourful spread at Giornotte restaurant for Dh235 per person (food only), which includes authentic Venetian delicacies exclusive to the festival, such as baccala mantecato, a light salted cod with toasted polenta, and gamberi in saor, a flavourful shrimp dish. There will also be Italian classics such as burrata, risottos, pastas and oven-baked pizzas, and castagnole (or carnival fritters) for dessert. The fete will further include family-friendly activities such as painting and decorating Venetian masks, held at the Ritz Kids Club; and a costume competition on Friday, February 21, at the hotel's brunch, priced at Dh299 per person (including soft drinks). The best Venetian costume will win a free brunch.

Savour African dishes from Tribes’s new menu and venue

Much-loved African-themed restaurant Tribes has opened a new outlet in Mall of the Emirates, on level two, next to Eat Greek and Vox Cinemas. New interiors aside, the revamped menu includes a sharing-style gourmet sausage platter with chargrilled beef, lamb and chicken; grilled chicken salad with baby gem lettuce and bacon; and venison steak with sauteed spinach, roasted apples and parsnip and cumin mash. The drinks menu has also been expanded to include fruit smoothies and a "self-pour" ice-cubed coffee concept. Non-dairy and caffeine-free lattes are also available.

This includes more than 18 dishes, such as flatbread shakshouka, beetroot avocado toast, blueberry pancakes, truffle scrambled eggs, acai bowls, eggs Benedict and more. Seu Pizza Illuminati creates a menu for Bulgari Resort Dubai

Bulgari Resort Dubai has collaborated with famed Italian pizza maker Seu Pizza Illuminati, a restaurant launched by chef Pier Daniele Seu in Rome, to “offer an enlightened approach to the way pizza is prepared, baked and enjoyed”. The dish uses special leavening and baking techniques to give the dough a special lightweight yet crunchy feel. At Il Cafe in Bulgari Resort Dubai, customers can sample authentic pizzas such as the Margherita Estiva with stracciatella di bufala, semi-dry tomatoes, basil pesto and extra virgin olive oil; and the Parmigiana, the pizza version of the Italian aubergine dish.

Teaching your child to save

Pre-school (three - five years)

You can’t yet talk about investing or borrowing, but introduce a “classic” money bank and start putting gifts and allowances away. When the child wants a specific toy, have them save for it and help them track their progress.

Early childhood (six - eight years)

Replace the money bank with three jars labelled ‘saving’, ‘spending’ and ‘sharing’. Have the child divide their allowance into the three jars each week and explain their choices in splitting their pocket money. A guide could be 25 per cent saving, 50 per cent spending, 25 per cent for charity and gift-giving.

Middle childhood (nine - 11 years)

Open a bank savings account and help your child establish a budget and set a savings goal. Introduce the notion of ‘paying yourself first’ by putting away savings as soon as your allowance is paid.

Young teens (12 - 14 years)

Change your child’s allowance from weekly to monthly and help them pinpoint long-range goals such as a trip, so they can start longer-term saving and find new ways to increase their saving.

Teenage (15 - 18 years)

Discuss mutual expectations about university costs and identify what they can help fund and set goals. Don’t pay for everything, so they can experience the pride of contributing.

Young adulthood (19 - 22 years)

Discuss post-graduation plans and future life goals, quantify expenses such as first apartment, work wardrobe, holidays and help them continue to save towards these goals.

Three ways to get a gratitude glow

By committing to at least one of these daily, you can bring more gratitude into your life, says Ong.

  • During your morning skincare routine, name five things you are thankful for about yourself.
  • As you finish your skincare routine, look yourself in the eye and speak an affirmation, such as: “I am grateful for every part of me, including my ability to take care of my skin.”
  • In the evening, take some deep breaths, notice how your skin feels, and listen for what your skin is grateful for.
