The new wavy glass hotel on Abu Dhabi's Airport Road is open and lovely. It is as also as spartan and open as you would expect inside, as hundreds of guests found out during an opening shindig this week. Neat light fixtures too. But for some people (OK, me), the highlight was this macaroon tree:

Some of French groups are threatening Friday to continue their journey to Brussels, the capital of Belgium and the European Union, and to meet up with drivers from other countries on Monday.
Belgian authorities joined French police in banning the threatened blockade. A similar lorry cavalcade was planned for Friday in Vienna but cancelled after authorities prohibited it.
