Afternoon tea is a time-honoured tradition in fancy hotels around the world and in the UAE it’s no exception. Except, there is an exception. Hotels are starting to get creative.
The Ritz-Carlton Dubai has launched a number of new afternoon teas, catering to those who normally wouldn’t go for afternoon tea, such as men, children and those with strict dietary requirements.
The Gentlemen’s Tea, which is also proving popular with women, is a more savoury affair with a wagyu beef slider with foie gras and beef tartare served in a hollowed-out bone with two fried quail eggs, while the sweets include a chocolate log that looks like a cigar. This option costs Dh185.
On the children’s menu are chocolate lollipops and hot chocolate, as well as other sweet and savoury options, for Dh90.
People who are gluten- and lactose-intolerant aren’t left out. On my recent visit, I was treated to an amazing array of dairy-free goodies created by the pastry chef Tobias, including peanut and dark chocolate bar, dark chocolate cake with passion fruit jelly and coconut lime soup, and vanilla and Meyer lemon creme Catalane with orange blossom and strawberries. This was instead of the Traditional Tea for Dh190.
And if these options aren’t enough, there’s always the Millionaire Treat for a cool Dh2,777 per couple. It includes premium beverages, Beluga caviar with blinis and condiments, and other sweet and savoury bites.
