Rhodes 44 at the St Regis Abu Dhabi has closed
On August 30, the restaurant Rhodes 44 at the St Regis Abu Dhabi quietly closed its doors.
According to chef Gary Rhodes, he no longer wanted to do an all-day dining restaurant, which Rhodes 44 was. When I asked Rhodes about it, he said the hotel did ask him to stay on and be part of the team, but an all-day dining venue is something he is no longer keen on. Here’s an excerpt from the official statement from the hotel: “We are rebranding the venue to provide UAE capital’s residents and visitors with a new experience. The partnership between The St Regis Abu Dhabi and chef Gary Rhodes has been very successful. Co-creating this dining outlet with Gary Rhodes has been an exciting adventure for both the hotel and restaurant teams. Chef Gary Rhodes is refocusing his efforts currently on his restaurants in Dubai.”
The hotel’s new restaurant is called The Terrace on the Corniche.
Rhodes 44 head chef Paul Lupton also left the restaurant, but he didn’t go far. He has taken over the helm at the soon-to-open restaurant Asia de Cuba at the hotel’s Nation Riviera Beach Club, though a third party (not the hotel) will manage Asia de Cuba.
Rhodes said the split was amicable. He has just opened a new restaurant in Dubai called Rhodes W1.
