DUBAI // The first online market delivering locally grown organic produce to your doorstep goes live in Dubai in the new year.
The Ripe market, which opened in Abu Dhabi last month and Dubai in September, will sell boxes including tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, courgettes, mushrooms and onions from three farms in Liwa, Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain.
The boxes will cost between Dh80 and Dh130.
Householders can have the food delivered or go to a collection point. For those who do not wish to pay by credit card, a courier can be sent to their home to collect cash. "We will introduce community collection points in Abu Dhabi soon and we are looking for more collection points so anyone looking to partner with Ripe should get in touch," said Becky Balderstone, the market's founder.
Orders on the website ripeme.com will close each Thursday at noon for delivery the following week.
Delivery days will depend on where buyers live. They will be told when they order on what day the goods will be delivered.
If the boxes are a success, Ripe hopes to expand into salad, herb and fruit boxes.

What is dialysis?
Dialysis is a way of cleaning your blood when your kidneys fail and can no longer do the job.

There are two kinds of dialysis — haemodialysis and peritoneal.
In haemodialysis, blood is pumped out of your body to an artificial kidney machine that filter your blood and returns it to your body by tubes.
In peritoneal dialysis, the inside lining of your own belly acts as a natural filter. Wastes are taken out by means of a cleansing fluid which is washed in and out of your belly in cycles.
It isn’t an option for everyone but if eligible, can be done at home by the patient or caregiver. This, as opposed to home haemodialysis, is covered by insurance in the UAE.
Going grey? A stylist's advice
If you’re going to go grey, a great style, well-cared for hair (in a sleek, classy style, like a bob), and a young spirit and attitude go a long way, says Maria Dowling, founder of the Maria Dowling Salon in Dubai.
It’s easier to go grey from a lighter colour, so you may want to do that first. And this is the time to try a shorter style, she advises. Then a stylist can introduce highlights, start lightening up the roots, and let it fade out. Once it’s entirely grey, a purple shampoo will prevent yellowing.
“Get professional help – there’s no other way to go around it,” she says. “And don’t just let it grow out because that looks really bad. Put effort into it: properly condition, straighten, get regular trims, make sure it’s glossy.”
