Urban Bistro has successfully launched one of the most innovative concepts we’ve seen in Dubai. Called Hijack Our Kitchen, the restaurant offers a unique opportunity to a local personality to become a restaurateur for one evening. Urban Bistro invites a local personality to come in, create their own menu and host a unique dinner. The number of courses, the cuisine, service style and presentation are all up to the host, who briefs the chefs on the menu and ideas beforehand, explaining exactly what he or she wants. After the chefs feel they’ve executed the menu, the host comes in for a tasting to make sure the food is up to par. The host also gets to come up with the decor, table settings, take away gifts and more.
A portion of the dinner’s proceeds are donated to a charity of the host’s choice. Previous personalities to host include radio presenter Anna Roberts; entrepreneur and socialite Tom Otton; magazine editor Rob Chilton; and Women’s Health Magazine editor Yi-Hwa Hanna.
The events are held monthly and open to the public. The next one, on Sunday, February 8, is hosted by celebrity stylist and entrepreneur Kelly Lundberg. She’s chosen the theme: ‘Ab Fab’. Tickets are Dh180, paid on arrival. To attend, email info@thinkliquorice.com.
