5 food trucks to try in the UAE

Powered by automated translation

Whether you’re craving a wagyu beefburger or a Mexican burrito, there’s probably a food truck for you. Here are five to try around the UAE:

Salt

Launched by two Emirati women, Salt was one of the first on the UAE food truck scene, in 2014. Their sleek, shiny-silver airstream trailer dishes up impressively tasty Wagyu beefburgers, a chicken burger, addictive fries, lemonade, shakes and lotus-flavoured soft ice cream we insist you try. There is a Salt truck at Kite Beach in Jumeirah, and another in Umm Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi.

Calle Tacos

There is a shortage of good Mexican food in the UAE. Calle Tacos helps to make up for that with its authentic Mexican street-food staples: burritos, nachos, quesadillas and tacos. Customers can tailor their bites with a mix of protein, toppings and sauces. Calle Tacos roams the country popping up at festivals and events. The massive truck is easy to spot, as it is painted bright orange, with a silhouette of camels, palm trees and the Burj Khalifa.

Casa Latina

This truck hit the streets late last year, serving up genuine Latino fare with a focus on Venezuelan cuisine. The brightly coloured lime green vehicle makes it hard to miss – and you will be glad for that. Try its famous pabellon arepa – a gluten-free corn cake filled with black beans, pulled beef, crumbly white cheese and sweet plantains. It’s messy, filling and satisfying. The tequenos – crispy, Venezuelan cheese sticks – are also a must-try item. Casa Latina travels around the country and can be found at outdoor markets, food festivals, concerts, art shows and more.

Big Smoke Burger

This hipster airstream trailer – colourfully decorated with animated characters in classic cars – is always busy at Last Exit, the food truck park at the side of Sheikh Zayed Road on the way to Dubai. Chefs serve up tasty burgers made with 100 per cent Canadian beef, hand-cut fries, shakes, and poutine made with authentic Canadian cheese curds. We recommend the signature Big Smoke Burger, with smoked Canadian cheddar cheese, caramelised onions, lettuce, tomato and a tasty horseradish mayonnaise. Big Smoke Burger also has a brick-and-mortar restaurant on Al Wasl Road.

The Shebi

This truck dishes up Indian-Lebanese fusion cuisine from a silver airstream trailer that emits a cool vibe. The Shebi is famous for its pulled-beef burger, which is stacked with pulled beef, coleslaw and an onion ring – all kicked up a notch with a slathering of Sriracha mayonnaise. The truck is always on the move and can often be spotted at events around the country (including last year’s F1 festivities). To keep track of its whereabouts, follow them on Instagram @theshebi.
