National Ice Cream Day may have originated in the US, but with the temperatures rising here, it is easy to see why it is now being embraced across the United Arab Emirates. Not that anyone needs an excuse to tuck into a cooling ice cream to counter the Arabian heat, but thanks to this American import, each year more and more venues are offering tasty frozen treats. Here are a few to consider.
Keventers
Keventers, makers of milkshakes, ice cream and boba tea since 1925, is marking National Ice Cream Day by offering a special Dh4 deal on four of its delicious flavours. Customers can indulge in French vanilla, midnight chocolate, cookies and cream, as well as coffee brownie with a bargain price of Dh16 if you want to go for all four. The only catch? It is for dine-in customers only.

House of Pops has created three new gourmet flavours to coincide with Ice Cream Day. Aimed at UAE "old timers", the flavours are watermelon, rosey lemonade and saffron delight and they hark back to tried and trusted flavours. Sold in one pint pots, as with all things House of Pops, the new arrivals are entirely plant-based and made with natural ingredients.

UAE brand Canvas Gelato is known for its artisanal ice cream and unique flavours, such as cucumber lemon or hibiscus ice cream, that now also comes as a sorbet. For National Ice Cream Day, it is offering customers a discount of 15 per cent on all orders over Dh300.

Upscale eatery Okku Dubai at Marriott Resort Palm Jumeirah is offering decadent ice creams at only Dh20 a scoop to celebrate the occasion. Available on national ice cream day only, flavours include miso caramel, wasabi, Tahitian vanilla, honey and dark chocolate.
