From Dubai to New York: All Things Mochi presents at Fashion Week

Known for working with artisans in communities all over the world, including Hungary, Uzbekistan and India, All Things Mochi showcased its spring/summer 2018 collection at New York Fashion Week this weekend.

The brand, which is headquartered at Dubai Design District (d3), looked to the Mayan community in Mexico for its new collection, presenting vibrant, geometric patterns on silhouettes that are trendy and contemporary. Billowy blouses, palazzo trousers, cropped tops and kaftan-style dresses are decorated with bright, hand-embroidered motifs, and accompanying earrings feature intertwined hoops adorned with colourful tassels.

At the New York presentation, models were styled with handcrafted totes and playful pinatas.

“The different artisanal practices I saw in Mexico were eye-opening," says the brand's founder, Ayah Tabari. "I am constantly inspired by these existing traditions and timeless patterns. I hope I have both continued and transformed them into contemporary versions, bringing the past and present together. For this season we incorporated traditional embroidery techniques and colours, as well as created new prints such as the rainbow print and worry doll print. We wanted to capture the authenticity of Mexico so by developing these prints I believe we bought their beautiful traditions to life."
