Dubai Mall to re-open on Tuesday, Mall of the Emirates now partially open

While it was officially able to open from Friday, the first day of Ramadan, Dubai Mall will only partially re-open its doors on Tuesday, April 28.

"The health and safety of our customers, employees and tenants remains our top priority," the mall announced, saying it is "undertaking extensive preparations in order to be able to safely re-open".

The UAE's largest mall will be open from 12pm to 10pm.

Those over 60, and children between three and 12 cannot visit malls, and shoppers must wear masks. People should expect heightened safety measures: for instance, every person entering the shopping complexes will have their temperature checked.

Government guidelines mean malls may only allow 30 per cent of the usual capacity of shoppers to enter at any given time.

Ibn Battuta to re-open on Monday

Nakheel Malls has announced that its shopping centres will partially re-open this week, too.

The restaurants at Club Vista Mare have re-opened, while Golden Mile Galleria opened on Sunday.

On Monday, April 27 the larger malls will re-open: these are Ibn Battuta Mall, Nakheel Mall and Dragon Mart. The Pointe will then re-open on Wednesday, April 29.

All of the malls will be open from 12pm to 10pm, and there will be a 30 per cent increase in security staff. Sanitisation tunnels will be installed in the larger malls for key workers, such as delivery drivers. High-touch points will be sterilised at least every 30 minutes.

Nakheel Malls say it will soon be launching a service so that customers can order goods online and pick them up at dedicated collection points so they needn’t walk through the mall.

Mall of the Emirates partially reopens

Mall of the Emirates has announced that it is partially reopen, operating from 12pm to 10pm (but entertainment facilities such as Ski Dubai and cinemas remain closed). Shoppers are allowed a maximum of three hours in the mall, and valet parking is temporarily closed.

People are still encouraged to only go to the mall if essential, and many of the items in Mall of the Emirates can be bought online via a marketplace launched on Friday, April 24.

Majid Al Futtaim says the marketplace hosts 250,000 products, and has brands such as Borders, Lush and Jysk selling products online via the Carrefour site.

City Centre Mirdiff has also announced that it is now partially reopen, saying that from Saturday, April 25 to Tuesday, June 30 the mall will be open from 12pm to 10pm. As at Mall of the Emirates, valet parking is not available, cinemas aren't operating and changing rooms and prayer rooms are closed.

Burjuman in Bur Dubai has also told retailers it will reopen from Saturday, April 25.

Fireball

Moscow claimed it hit the largest military fuel storage facility in Ukraine, triggering a huge fireball at the site.

A plume of black smoke rose from a fuel storage facility in the village of Kalynivka outside Kyiv on Friday after Russia said it had destroyed the military site with Kalibr cruise missiles.

"On the evening of March 24, Kalibr high-precision sea-based cruise missiles attacked a fuel base in the village of Kalynivka near Kyiv," the Russian defence ministry said in a statement.

Ukraine confirmed the strike, saying the village some 40 kilometres south-west of Kyiv was targeted.

Credit Score explained

What is a credit score?

In the UAE your credit score is a number generated by the Al Etihad Credit Bureau (AECB), which represents your credit worthiness – in other words, your risk of defaulting on any debt repayments. In this country, the number is between 300 and 900. A low score indicates a higher risk of default, while a high score indicates you are a lower risk.

Why is it important?

Financial institutions will use it to decide whether or not you are a credit risk. Those with better scores may also receive preferential interest rates or terms on products such as loans, credit cards and mortgages.

How is it calculated?

The AECB collects information on your payment behaviour from banks as well as utilitiy and telecoms providers.

How can I improve my score?

By paying your bills on time and not missing any repayments, particularly your loan, credit card and mortgage payments. It is also wise to limit the number of credit card and loan applications you make and to reduce your outstanding balances.

How do I know if my score is low or high?

By checking it. Visit one of AECB’s Customer Happiness Centres with an original and valid Emirates ID, passport copy and valid email address. Liv. customers can also access the score directly from the banking app.

How much does it cost?

A credit report costs Dh100 while a report with the score included costs Dh150. Those only wanting the credit score pay Dh60. VAT is payable on top.
