The Abu Dhabi Corniche has long been a firm favourite for families, fitness fanatics and those just wishing to get some fresh air. If you go down to the Corniche today you are in for a big surprise. The 80,000-square-metre A'l Bahar beachfront community has started to open to the public, as our photographer Pawan Singh's pictures show. With an old fashioned carousel and fairground games, A'l Bahar exudes a beachside holiday feeling. Adjacent to the St Regis and Hilton hotels, this new public space when it's fully completed will have 48 dining, retail and leisure outlets as well as an area for concerts and events. There is a 500-metre beachside promenade, and the area is also home to Aquafun, Abu Dhabi's first inflatable waterpark, featuring slides, ramps, bridges, steps, jumps, balloons, monkey bars – and is a good option for those who are after an energetic day out on the water. In fact fitness is a huge focus of A'l Bahar and there is a basketball court as well as beach volleyball courts, football pitches and an outdoor gym. Bodytree has opened its second yoga studio on the strip and Haddins fitness company will have a presence too. All in all the perfect place for a weekend visit with the family, check it out.
