The piece, entitled Aladdin Sane, was shot by Nick Knight and featured on the cover of the May 2003 issue of British Vogue.

It is a hand-coated archival pigment print, measuring 101.6cm by 76.2cm and flush-mounted on aluminium. It is signed, titled, dated and numbered ‘2/10 + 2 APs’ (artist’s proofs). It was bought by an anonymous bidder.

It was sold last month as part of a Christie’s auction called Kate Moss – From the Collection of Gert Elfering.

The auction featured 58 artworks depicting the British model by fashion greats such as Steven Klein, Chris Levine, Irving Penn, Albert Watson, Mario Sorrenti, Mario Testino, Craig McDean and Annie Leibovitz.

The sale earned a total of US$2.7 million (almost Dh10 million).

“The sale has provided an exceptional testament to Kate Moss as the greatest icon of style of the modern age,” said Philippe Garner, international head of photographs at Christie’s.
