Crown Prince Camel Festival in Saudi Arabia - in pictures
Camels rest after a race during the Crown Prince Camel Festival in Taif, a city in south-west Saudi Arabia.
This year is the third edition of the Crown Prince Camel Festival in Taif.
The festival starts with a preliminary stage for all age groups with 32 races.
Local and international owners compete for a total prize pool of 53 million Saudi riyals ($14.1 million).
The Crown Prince’s Sword Award, worth a million Saudi riyals, goes to the owner of the camel with the most points in the public runs during the festival.
The festival entered the Guinness World Records in 2019 when more than 13,000 camels participated.
The festival began on August 8.
The festival is held to promote the heritage of camel racing in Saudi Arabia, as well as support tourism and economic development in the kingdom.
Taif, often referred to as the City of Roses, is known for the famously fragrant flowers that grow in the surrounding wadis and mountains.
The city really comes to life in August when the Souq Okaz cultural festival and the Crown Prince Camel Festival are in full swing.
