Oman: large fire sends clouds of smoke across Muscat

Firefighters bring flames under control after two hours and investigation is launched

A large fire that broke out at a car repair workshop in Muscat, Oman, on Thursday evening destroyed vehicles and offices.

The blaze sent thick plumes of grey smoke into the sky.
Witnesses in the Wadi Kabeer area of the capital, where the incident occurred, said the fire raged for two hours before it was brought under control by the fire brigade.
"It destroyed many cars that were under repair and the offices of the workshop. We don't know if anybody was hurt but we saw mechanics running out of the workshop," Jamil Al Qassmi, 56, a witness,  told The National.
The Oman News Agency did not give details but said police were investigating the cause of the fire.
