The “world’s thinnest phone” has arrived in the UAE in the form of the Oppo R5.

The R5 is a mere 4.85mm thick making it perfect for those who like a lightweight device that is not too intrusive when carried in the pocket. In comparison, the iPhone 6 is 6.9mm thick.

Although Oppo is advertising the phone as the world’s thinnest, the Chinese manufacturer Vivo unveiled the X5 Max in China on December 10, measuring just 4.75mm thick.

The phone has a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core processor and a 5.2 inch Super Amoled display with 1080P resolution.

It also has a Schneider Kreuznach-certified 13-megapixel camera, delivering 50-megapixels of ultra high-definition picture clarity.

This is not the first time Oppo has taken on the challenge of creating a super-slimline phone.

“In July of 2012, Oppo launched what was then the world’s thinnest smartphone, the Oppo Finder. To create a device that is ultra-thin and ultra-strong, Oppo overcame various industrial design and material challenges,” the Chinese company said in a statement.

The device is made of titanium so should not have the bending issues that were reported with the iPhone 6.

The Oppo N3 has also been announced for the UAE market, containing the range’s distinctive rotating camera (16 megapixels) with an added automation function.

“The N3’s camera has the ability to rotate 206 degrees and is capable of taking pictures using its free-stop and multi-angle shooting features, a truly unique experience in mobile technology and photography,” said Oppo.

The Oppo N3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core CPU and has 2GB Ram and a 5.5-inch screen made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The R5 is available at Sharaf DG and Jumbo Electronics stores for Dh1,899. The N3 will be available from the end of the month, but the price is yet to be confirmed.
