The UAE is making progress to reach its target to ramp up oil production capacity by 2017. The country aims to increase its current 2.8 million barrels per day to 3.5 million bpd, and progress continues on the Umm Lulu Field Development Project.
“Umm Lulu is of strategic importance to Abu Dhabi in achieving its production enhancement goals,” said Ali Jarwan, the chief executive of Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (Adma-Opco).
Last month, the offshore oilfield developed by Adma-Opco began producing 5,000 bpd. The field, located 30 kilometres north-west of Abu Dhabi in the Arabian Gulf, could bring an additional 100,000 bpd to the UAE once fully developed.
The oil produced from the field will be transported to Zirku Island and eventually make its way to Asia.
The next phase for Umm Lulu is under way, which includes a gas treatment platform.
National Petroleum Construction Company and Technip brought GE into the mix to supply its gas turbines to the development. Under the contract, the US firm will supply its gas turbine generator sets, gas lift compressors and gas injection compressors.
