Trial run begins for Sharjah’s Al Montazah Park ahead of grand opening

SHARJAH // A water park, karting and world-class restaurants are just some of the attractions on offer at the upgraded Al Montazah Park.

A trial run is being conducted at the venue, formerly known as Al Jazeera Park, before its official grand opening on March 13.

Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, the chief executive of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, said the facility would boost tourism in the emirate.

“The opening of Al Montazah is a new addition to tourism in Sharjah and the UAE, a move that will contribute to raising the flow of tourists into the emirate, particularly family tourism,” he said. “Al Montazah will receive a limited number of visitors during the trial operation, to monitor the efficiency and quality of facilities and services, as well as to listen to visitors’ comments.”

The park can accommodate about three million visitors a year, Mr Al Sarkal said, and has three main sections.

The first is the 26,000 square metre water park. The second is a 50,000 sq m area for picnics and events that will include a number of world-class restaurants, cafes, a lake for boating and a mosque.

The third part is a leisure park, also 50,000 sq m, that includes a karting track for children, two mini football playgrounds, areas for sports and a venue for celebrations.

Entry tickets to the main park cost Dh10 but are free for children smaller than 80 centimetres. Tickets for some of the sports and games range from Dh10 to Dh25.

Entry to the water park costs Dh120 for adults, Dh75 for children between 80 and 120cm tall, and free for children under 80cm.

Waterpark tickets include free entry to the main park.
