ABU DHABI // Work is due to begin on a 12km-long stretch of beach in Kalba on the east coast at a cost of Dh180 million.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, the ruler of Sharjah, issued instructions to begin the work after designing a draft plan that takes into consideration the interests of residents and fishermen, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
“The initiative is an innovative step as Kalba is in the greatest need for such initiatives,” said Helal Al Naqbi, President of the Municipal Council of Kalba.
He added that Sheikh Sultan suggested many ideas and projects that are planned to be developed in Kalba with the aim of reviving tourism in the city whilst providing nationals with hundreds of job opportunities.
He noted that the new beach development project will be the largest in the area.
“The Dh180 million development project is active at all levels,” said Ahmed Jumaa Al Hoora, Director of Kalba Municipality. “It will include beach development and installations to protect beaches from hurricanes. This project will be a true an effective beginning to an efficient use of Kalba’s shores.”
