ABU DHABI // A project to bring a traditional market near Mussaffah Bridge into the 21st century has been approved by Abu Dhabi Executive Committee.

Khor Al Maqta market has historical significance, the committee said. The renovation is part of Dh700 million worth of improvements to the area.

Al Dhafeer Street in Abu Dhabi will be expanded, with more parking for broken-down vehicles and new entrances to streets around Al Bahr Towers.

The committee also approved work to maintenance roads in Khalifa City, Shakhbut City, Al Raha Beach and Al Falah. Waterworks in Al Ain will be upgraded.

Labourers’ buses will be ban-ned from roads on Abu Dhabi Island between 6.30am and 9am to help reduce congestion in rush hour, and a new tunnel carrying sewage to Al Wathba for treatment will be built.
