ABU DHABI // Solar Impulse 2 is expected to take to the air again on Tuesday headed for Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania.
The latest leg of the round-the-world attempt will see the experimental aircraft set off from Dayton, Ohio at about 2pm UAE time.
Pilots Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard have been alternating pilot duties on the mission, with Piccard due to take the controls on the upcoming leg.
“I will be flying #Si2 tomorrow to Lehigh Valley, #Pennsylvania with the #WrightBrothers in my thoughts,” tweeted Piccard.
Dayton was the home of aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright, who, in 1903, invented the first powered aircraft.
After landing in Pennsylvania, Solar Impulse 2 will then fly to its final US stop in New York, before attempting to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
The Masdar-sponsored project, which began in Abu Dhabi in March 2015 and is expected to end there, aims to be the first to fly around the world using only the power of the sun.

Farage on Muslim Brotherhood
Nigel Farage told Reform's annual conference that the party will proscribe the Muslim Brotherhood if he becomes Prime Minister.
"We will stop dangerous organisations with links to terrorism operating in our country," he said. "Quite why we've been so gutless about this – both Labour and Conservative – I don't know.
“All across the Middle East, countries have banned and proscribed the Muslim Brotherhood as a dangerous organisation. We will do the very same.”
It is 10 years since a ground-breaking report into the Muslim Brotherhood by Sir John Jenkins.
Among the former diplomat's findings was an assessment that “the use of extreme violence in the pursuit of the perfect Islamic society” has “never been institutionally disowned” by the movement.
The prime minister at the time, David Cameron, who commissioned the report, said membership or association with the Muslim Brotherhood was a "possible indicator of extremism" but it would not be banned.
