Nissan Motors, Renault and Mitsubishi Motors are in talks to create a new company to develop
technologies for next-generation vehicles, according to the Nikkei Asian Review.
The new company will aim for more efficient vehicle development, which will require significant investment in research, the report said. While details such as investment ratios have yet to be determined, the strategy may be included in a joint management plan to be announced by the end of the year.
Nissan said in an email it doesn’t comment on speculation.
In a separate report, the Nikkei Asian Review said Nissan would stop producing its Datsun compact car in Indonesia and Russia from next year. "Nissan reaffirms our commitment to our valued customers and the markets where Nissan vehicles are sold," Nissan said in an emailed statement. "Our optimisation plan includes rightsizing, production optimisation and reorganising our business operations. As part of this plan we have taken several actions to set us on a path for growth."
