Bidder pays Dh2.3 million at charitable auction for phone number

The bid winner is the same person who paid Dh7.8 million for a phone number in another auction in March.

DUBAI // An Emirati has paid Dh2.3 million for the mobile phone number 056 777 7777.

The sale was confirmed at an Emirates Auction jointly held at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi and the Armani Hotel in Dubai, in cooperation with Etisalat, The National’s Arabic sister paper, Al Ittihad, reported.

Proceeds from the auction will go to fund charitable projects by the Khalifa bin Zayed Humanitarian Foundation.

The seven-hour auction involved 71 VIP Etisalat packages for special numbers.

All numbers were offered at a nominal value of Dh16,500.

The bidder who bought the number is the same man who had paid Dh7.8m for a similar number starting with 050 during the first auction in March.
