DUBAI // All Dubai Health Authority hospitals and primary and speciality health centres are to get android tablets.

Three thousand will be provided for patients and people in waiting areas, the authority said.

Rashid Hospital, Dubai Hospital, Latifa Hospital and Hatta Hospital are among the facilities receiving the devices.

The move is in line with the smart government initiative launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, said Essa Al Maidoor, the director general of the authority.

Part of the health service's 'IT roadmap', the plan includes the electronic medical records system, the health information system and smart hospitals.

The initiatives, which are expected to be implemented in two to three years, will help the authority manage the present and future needs of the health sector, said Mr Al Maidoor.

By providing the abdroid tablets, the authority can improve patients' stay and the manner in which healthcare is delivered and managed, he added.

"The deployment of android tablets across DHA healthcare entities is the first step in our plan to build smart hospitals that will be integrated with the latest IT technology to enhance customer experience.

"Customer care is at the heart of the Dubai Health Strategy 2013-2025 and these initiatives are aimed to improve the user experience of patients."

The initiative is being carried out in cooperation with Fam Holdings, the sponsor of the adroid tablets.

More tablets will be added in later stages.
