Strata Manufacturing will this week deliver its first parts for the Boeing Dreamliner manufactured at the Al Ain facility.
The Mubadala-owned company, which makes parts for both Airbus and Boeing, said the vertical fin ribs are headed for the US company's facilities in Everett, Washington.
The part supports the aircraft’s vertical fin and helps to ensure that weight is evenly distributed.
In April 2012, Boeing and Mubadala reached an agreement to assign Stata to supply the vertical fin for the 787 Dreamliner.
Strata already supplies empennage ribs, also known as the tail assembly, for the Boeing 777, the first of which was shipped to Boeing in February this year. Strata said that Emiratis make up 60 per cent of the workforce of the 787-9 vertical fin production line.
At the Dubai Airshow in November 2013, the facility won deals from Airbus and Boeing worth US$5 billion to make parts for their aircraft – including Boeing’s proposed 777X. Strata aims to break even by the end of next year.
