There was a significant increase in the number of healthcare professionals and facilities at Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) last year amid a stronger regulatory framework.

The number of clinical facilities at DHCC increased by 28 per cent, while the number of licensed healthcare professionals rose 20 per cent.

The number of licensed healthcare professionals at DHCC increased to 5,400 last year from 4,534 in 2014 while the number of clinical facilities increased to 159 last year from 124 in 2014. The new clinical providers include a diet centre, diagnostic laboratories, a sleep centre and an ayurvedic centre.

“We remain on track for delivering in 2016 a more robust regulatory framework to attract qualified healthcare professionals, and to ensure highest patient safety standards,” according to Dr Ramadan Al Blooshi, the chief executive for Dubai Healthcare City Authority.

To focus on medical tourism and medical education, DHCA opened two new units – Dubai Healthcare City Authority – Investment, and Dubai Healthcare City Authority – Education. Also last year, DHCC signed a partnership with the UAE Ministry of Health and Mediclinic Middle East to develop healthcare professionals’ skills through academic programmes and research. The partnership is expected to benefit postgraduate students at the Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, which is housed at DHCC. Doctors from Mediclinic Middle East can also take up adjunct faculty positions at the university.

The university’s two colleges offer programmes on dental medicine, including oral surgery, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry and prosthodontics.
