The owner of Marina d’Or had planned to build the biggest holiday resort in Europe with 35,000 houses, three golf courses and even a miniature of the Eiffel Tower. But the developer has declared debts of €681 million (Dh3.41 billion), €546m of which are owed to banks and many of the homes and shops in the complex now stand empty.
