Construction consultancy Hill International has announced that its consortium has won a US$41.6 million (Dh152m) contract to project manage the development of the new Lusail LRT system in Qatar.
Hill is a 50 per cent partner in the consortium that will deliver the project on behalf of Qatar Railways Company. It is partnering with Italferr and Qatari consultancy Astad Project Management to deliver the four-year contract.
The Light Rail Transit system will run for 38.5 kilometres through Lusail City, a new $50 billion city being built to the north of Doha on behalf of state-owned developer Qatari Diar. It will have four lines and 32 stations - 25 of which will be at grade and seven will be underground. It will connect to the new Doha Metro system.
Mohammed Al Rais, the Middle East president of Hill’s project management arm, said: “This project will have a major impact on Lusail City and its position as a prominent business and leisure destination in Qatar.”
