Drake & Scull has landed a pair of contracts in Abu Dhabi and Dubai worth a combined Dh131 million.
The Abu Dhabi deal involves delivering mechanical and lighting works for a mixed-use residential and commercial tower, while the contract in Dubai covers a pair of district cooling schemes.
The contracts have been awarded to the company’s Drake & Scull Engineering unit.
Work on the Abu Dhabi tower is already under way and is due to complete in 2018.
Work on the district cooling plants in Dubai involves the supply, installation and testing of water-cooled chillers, cooling towers and building management systems. The contract is due to start next January and complete by year’s end.
The plants will provide a combined 6,750 refrigeration tonnes of cooling.
Ahmad Al Naser, the managing director of DSE, said the company “continues to build on the momentum achieved this year in the form of awards for prestigious large scale projects across our key markets.
“The two projects will be a vital addition to our current projects backlog which stood at Dh12.35 billion as of September 30 2015,” he said.
“We are also delivering a number of projects in other parts of the Mena region,” said Mr Al Naser. Last week, Drake & Scull reported a loss of Dh877.8m during the third quarter, compared with a Dh21.4m profit a year earlier. The loss was attributed to a series of one-off provisions linked to legal disputes over contracts in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
This week, the district cooling provider Empower’s chief executive, Ahmad bin Shafar, said that integrating district cooling plants into construction projects “is no longer an option but a must for companies to ensure environmental efficiency”.
