Deals of the Week: Mashreq launches travel deals for customers

Summer may have started a month ago, but it's not too late to take advantage of a raft of value-added travel offers on the market.

Mashreq, one of Dubai's largest lenders by assets, has launched a travel programme in partnership with MakeMyTrip and SNTTA, which enables its customers to take advantage of a range of discounted travel offers and benefits through their credit and debit cards.

Mashreq's travel programme is running until December 31, which means customers can use it not only for summer, but also for Eid or other holidays.

Mashreq says the travel offer completes its trilogy of year-long deals, which includes a dining programme and zero per cent easy payment plan.

The travel programme offers customers up to 25 per cent discounts on more than 50 different holiday packages. It also provides customers with several perks, such as discounts on flight bookings and complimentary travel insurance. Credit-card customers will also be rewarded for their holiday spending overseas through Mashreq's Salaam Rewards programme.

"We are confident that our customers in the UAE will benefit from this special offer and more travellers in the UAE will be introduced to the convenience and value-based propositions offered by MakeMyTrip.com," says Amit Saberwal, the website's chief business officer.

Zurich Insurance, the Switzerland-based insurance firm, has for the first time launched insurance products in the UAE.

Zurich says that its travel products are tailored to meet the needs of residents and come in four categories: Schengen, Silver, Gold and Family.

The insurance packages offer protection for a number of unexpected events, and include coverage for the cost of missed or cancelled flights, accidents or delays.

The Family insurance policy does not have any limits on the number of children a customer can include on the policy.

"UAE residents love to travel but often don't have home contents insurance, leaving them exposed to theft or damage to their possessions while they're abroad," says Maroun Mourad, the chief executive of Zurich's general insurance operations in the Middle East.

"With our travel product, we have included Home Care, where we will pay towards the cost of repair or replacement in the event a customer's home contents are stolen or damaged while they're out of the country."

Another way to earn air miles

In addition to the Emirates and Etihad programmes, there is the Air Miles Middle East card, which offers members the ability to choose any airline, has no black-out dates and no restrictions on seat availability. Air Miles is linked up to HSBC credit cards and can also be earned through retail partners such as Spinneys, Sharaf DG and The Toy Store.

An Emirates Dubai-London round-trip ticket costs 180,000 miles on the Air Miles website. But customers earn these ‘miles’ at a much faster rate than airline miles. Adidas offers two air miles per Dh1 spent. Air Miles has partnerships with websites as well, so booking.com and agoda.com offer three miles per Dh1 spent.

“If you use your HSBC credit card when shopping at our partners, you are able to earn Air Miles twice which will mean you can get that flight reward faster and for less spend,” says Paul Lacey, the managing director for Europe, Middle East and India for Aimia, which owns and operates Air Miles Middle East.
