Dubai World Central yesterday unveiled plans for new supply chain facilities in its aviation district to attract small and medium enterprises in the maintenance, repair and overhaul sector.
DWC said that the development would consist of a series of buildings spread across 45,000 square metres, comprising office and warehousing facilities.
The project, which is estimated to cost Dh120 million, is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of next year.
“This project marks the latest milestone in our journey to create infrastructure for players across the aerospace supply chain spectrum,” said Tahnoon Saif, the vice president of DWC’s aviation district.
“The location enjoys several benefits, such as unrivalled access to both the Al Maktoum International Airport and the Jebel Ali Port. There are also productivity and efficiency benefits arising from the cluster effect, with suppliers and collaborators in proximity with each other in the DWC aviation district.”
DWC’s vice president for logistics, Mohsen Ahmad, said in November that the aerotropolis was looking to attract more SMEs to its logistics district, as well as major players such as DHL, Aramex and Hellmann Caliper.
DWC’s aviation district is a 6.7-square-kilometre master-planned area offering infrastructure as part of Dubai’s strategic vision for the sector.

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.
