The telecoms operator du says residents across the UAE can sign up for its broadband and fixed line services now, and be up and running inside seven days.
Following six years of negotiations, the Telecommunications Authority announced on Monday the formal agreement between Etisalat and du to share the country’s fibre network, meaning customers would no longer be limited to just one telecoms provider.
The move currently extends to broadband and fixed line, with television services to follow in nine to 12 months, according to du.
It said in a statement that new customers will have the option of cancelling their subscription within seven days.
“Once the customer subscribes, the new du service should be up and running within seven days,” said Fahad Al Hassawi, chief commercial officer at du. “In fact, du is so confident that customers will love their service that, if they’re unhappy, they have the option to cancel within seven days after activation at no extra cost.
“Any new or existing fixed-line customers across the entire UAE can apply, as long as their home is connected by fibre network.”
Du, listed on the Dubai Financial Market, started operating in 2007 and says it now serves 7.5 million individual customers and more than 80,000 businesses in the UAE.
The changes to the UAE’s telecom industry have been widely welcomed, although analysts expect customers to see more competition on services rather than price.
