Food security and supporting small-scale farmers to help close the food gap will be the focus of a conference in Abu Dhabi next month, organisers said yesterday.
The Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development will hold the Gulf Forum to Enhance Food Security and Support Small and Medium Scale Farmers on March 2, it said yesterday.
The event is being organised in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, and the Food Security Centre in Abu Dhabi.
“The forum will shed light on the important role of small and medium-scale farmers in regional agricultural development,” said Mohamed bin Obaid Al Mazrowei, the chairman of AAAID.
The AAAID was established to help achieve food security in the Arab region through agricultural investments, development of resources and the application of modern technologies. It has been working on correlating scientific research and technology development and extending field research in agricultural investment, among others. Its research centres are located in various areas to meet the needs of key technical projects.
