A new business park at Dubai’s Motor City is due to be completed by the end of the year.
The developer Union Properties said that after eight months of delays, it had broken ground on the 6,000 square metres Motorsport Business Park with contractor Multilink Contracting.
It will house racing teams and motor sports businesses, which will be located in the centre of the 5.39-kilometre Dubai Autodrome race circuit.
“This bespoke facility will be a game changer for the motor sports industry in Dubai as it brings the major stakeholders involved in UAE motorsports together under one big roof,” said Ryan Trutch, the Dubai Autodrome special projects manager. “It will give these businesses easy access to our circuit, whether for testing or customer experiences.”
Union Properties and Dubai Autodrome had announced plans for a 13 unit, 5,000 sq metres motor sports business park in January 2016 with construction work originally due to start in July 2016.
Richard Birch, the Dubai Autodrome general manager, said that the company had contemplated building a second phase for 2018.
Motor City was launched in 2005 as a motor racing-themed community that was expected to host a Dubai grand prix, a motor sports theme park and to house 25,000 people.
However, the project was hit hard by the global financial crisis in 2008, forcing Union Properties to revise its original master plan. In December it said it had revived plans to build a motor racing theme park in Dubailand.
