Emirates will mark a milestone in November, when it receives its 100th Airbus A380.

The airline, which operates the largest number of A380s in the world, has announced it will receive the aircraft on November 3, about nine years after the double-deck, wide-body jet airliner was rolled out on various routes.

More than 80 million passengers have flown on Emirates' superjumbos - the world's largest passenger jet - since their inception into its fleet.

Emirates now flies the A380 to destinations in Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.

Emirates president Sir Tim Clark said the aircraft was often a tourist attraction in itself.

“The A380 has been, and continues to be hugely popular amongst our customers, many of whom deliberately plan their travel so that they can fly on it,' he said.

Emirates had also worked with stakeholders to launch a dedicated A380 concourse with 20 gates, offering direct boarding from the airport lounge, and an engineering centre which include six heavy maintenance hangars, paint shops, and the capability to completely overhaul an A380.

Various upgrades had been made to the planes recently, too.

“Our frequent flyers will have noticed countless improvements onboard over the years, ranging from minor updates such as the addition of in-seat USB and HDMI ports, to bigger cabin overhauls where for instance we relocated the central overhead luggage bins to create more spacious cabins on the upper deck."

But Emirates has also tinkered around with the outside of its planes.

Over the last couple of years, the airline has unveiled several themed A380s - even one with a host of Real Madrid showing off their skills front and centre.

In 2015, 33 aircraft were given exterior makeovers - with the Emirates Aircraft Appearance Centre, the world's largest aircraft painting facility owned by an airline, completely stripping and repainting 13 per cent of its fleet.

The motifs of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema and Marcelo were adorned on the side of a plane in March 2016, as the Spanish giants sat on top of La Liga and were on course for a record 33rd league title. The mural was visible from both sides of the plane, with a bespoke decal covering an area of more than 500 square metres.

A month later, when English football was gripped by FA Cup fever, Emirates played its part with the unveiling of a dedicated Emirates FA Cup A380.

It was presented ahead of the semi-final stage of football’s oldest cup competition, of which the Dubai carrier last year became the first title sponsor in its 144-year history.

It has also celebrated its partnership with Italian club AC Milan with an aircraft sporting images of players Riccardo Montolivo, Mario Balotelli, Carlos Bacca, Keisuke Honda, Alessio Romagnoli, and Mattia De Sciglio on the fuselage.

And in July it flew Premier League side Arsenal on its pre-season tour to Singapore in a Boeing 777-200LR featuring Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck, Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere on one side, and Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud on the other. On board, menus and headrests were given an Arsenal theme.
