Masdar's 1 MW solar PV plant in the Solomon Islands. Previously, 90 per cent of the electricity produced in the country was generated by diesel generators located in the city of Honiara on Guadalcanal Island, one of the six major islands that makes up the Solomon Islands. The one megawatt plant, which was expanded from 600 kW following a grant from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will bolster energy resilience and reduce costs associated with diesel imports. Masdar's Port Vila 767kW solar PV in Vanuatu. Port Vila, Vanuatu’s capital, has a population of 44,000, of which only 27 per cent have access to electricity. Masdar has developed 11 renewable energy projects in the Pacific islands, made possible by the US$50 million UAE-Pacific Partnership Fund (UAE-PPF), a grant provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
