Abu Dhabi will host a global cultural leadership summit next year to discuss the role of culture in addressing some of the challenges of our times, such as the fight against extremism and the disruptive effect of new technologies.
The five-day event, starting on April 9, will be at Manarat Al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island. It will gather the world’s ministers of culture and public policy officials, artists, officials from arts institutions, leaders in the media and technology industries and philanthropists.
The first Cultural Leadership Summit expects to have 300 participants. About half of the people taking part are expected to be less than 40 years old.
It will be built around discussions, exhibits and workshops. The summit, which is expected to have delegates from almost every country in the world, will include performances by artists in residence and developed in an arts incubator.
“This event underscores our commitment to culture and the arts as well as to exploring the next-generation issues that are of importance to each of us in the UAE and to citizens of every country,” said Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, the chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi).
TCA Abu Dhabi will host the event with the FP Group, the publisher of Foreign Policy magazine, and New York-based not-for-profit group TCP Ventures, an advisory company that produces artistic events.
