The capital's airport is connecting more people.
Figures from January show an increase of 14.5 per cent in the number of passengers going through Abu Dhabi International Airport compared with a year earlier.
That translates to more than 1.5 million people using the airport last month.
The airport’s top five routes by number of passengers were Bangkok, Jeddah, Doha, Manila and London Heathrow.
The airport handled 16.5 million passengers last year. The Midfield Terminal, expected to open in 2017, will increase its capacity to 40 million.
Traffic also increased at a double-digit pace in January, by 7.7 per cent, to 11,972 aircraft movements.
The increases coincide with the expansion of Etihad Airways' routes and plans for additions to its fleet.
By 2020, Etihad expects to have more than 160 aircraft, including 10 Airbus A380s and 41 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
In the cargo segment, the airport handled 58,114 tonnes, an increase of 18.9 per cent, last month.
