Mers has not reached Bahrain, which is fully prepared to fight the virus should it hit the country, officials said on Tuesday.
Sadaq Al Shehabi, Bahrain’s health minister, said that public and private hospitals are working together to prevent the deadly virus from emerging in the country.
Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s prime minister, instructed the country’s cabinet on May 5 to put all preventative measures in place and the Ministry of Health is monitoring the situation.
The respiratory virus has killed more than 100 people worldwide – mainly in Saudi Arabia, where it was first identified in 2012.
The virus has also spread to other countries in the region, including the UAE, Qatar and Jordan.
