1932: Yash Raj Chopra is born.
1959: Makes directorial debut with Dhool Ka Phool.
1965: Receives first Filmfare Best Director Award for Waqt.
1973: Establishes own production company, Yash Raj Films, and launches it with Daag: A Poem of Love.
1975: Releases the action thriller Deewar which marks Amitabh Bachchan's arrival as Bollywood's "angry young man".
1985: Chopra's career takes a dip as he releases Faasle, a romantic drama which turns out to be a critical and commercial failure, regarded as the worst work of his entire career.
1989: Makes a comeback with Chandni, which marks the first in what will soon be known as "Yash Chopra-style" films: romantic, highly emotional, heroine-centric and featuring a melodic soundtrack shot in picturesque foreign locales.
1993: Directs musical thriller Darr, starring Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol, alongside newcomer Shah Rukh Khan. The runaway success becomes a cult classic and marks the start of Khan's ascent.
1995: Releases his iconic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
2001: The Government of India honours Chopra with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001.
2006: Yash Raj Films becomes India's biggest production company.
2007: Receives Filmfare Power Award.
2012: Passes away at age 80.
