Australian pop star Kylie Minogue has lodged objections after Kylie Jenner, part of the Kardashian celebrity clan, applied for trademark protection for the name. A company formed around the 18-year-old model Jenner asked the US Patent and Trademark Office to register KYLIE, in capital letters, for use in advertising. This did not impress Minogue, one of whom's first big hits, a cover of The Loco-Motion, was released in 1987, 10 years before Jenner was born. "Hello..... My name is KYLIE #lightyears," Minogue tweeted on Sunday, alluding to the title of her 2000 album. In an objection lodged with the US patent office, Minogue's representatives said that the 47-year-old singer has sold more than 80 million records and has had the website www.kylie.com registered since 1996. The filing described Jenner as being best known for her "photographic exhibitionism and controversial posts" on social media and added: "Ms Jenner is a secondary reality-television personality who appeared on the television series Keeping Up With the Kardashians as a supporting character." – AFP
Neerja director asks Pakistan to rethink ban
Neerja director Ram Madhvani says he hops that Pakistan "reconsiders" its ban on showing the film, saying that it is "not showing any country in a bad light". The film, which stars Sonam Kapoor, is based on the true story of Neerja Bhanot, a flight attendant who helped to save passengers on a Pan Am aircraft hijacked in 1986 in Karachi. The film was released in India last month, but was banned in Pakistan for allegedly portraying the country in poor light. "Anybody who has seen the film would know we have not shown anything against anyone," Madhvani said. – IANS

A long-lost painting by Italian master Caravaggio is being shown to the public for the first time at an exhibition in Tokyo. Mary Magdalene in Ecstasy was found in a private collection in 2014 and identified as an original by the Caravaggio specialist Mina Gregori, an Italian art historian. The 1606 work was previously known only through copies made by followers of the artist. The painting is one of 11 Caravaggio works in the show, Caravaggio and His Time: Friends, Rivals and Enemies, which opened on Tuesday at the National Museum of Western Art and runs until June 12. – AP
