After unveiling the logo on Sunday, Bollywood star Varun Dhawan took to Twitter again yesterday to unveil the poster for his latest movie, Dishoom, an action-adventure film that was partly shot at 30 locations in Abu Dhabi, in association with twofour54. The poster shows Dhawan, who plays an Emirati-Indian rookie cop, and co-star John Abraham, who plays his partner, walking with a bulldog in tow. Abraham and co-star Jacqueline Fernandez also tweeted the poster reveal. Dishoom – which is directed by Rohit Dhawan and marks the comeback of Akshaye Khanna – is due for release on July 28. – Sonali Kokra

Daughter and ex defend Depp

Johnny Depp's daughter has defended the actor after his wife Amber Heard accused him of abuse and filed for divorce. Lily-Rose Depp posted a photo on Instagram showing herself as a baby with her dad holding her hands and helping her walk. The caption said: "My dad is the sweetest, most loving person I know. He's been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same." French actress Vanessa Paradis, Depp's former partner (and mother of Lily-Rose), also offered her support. In a letter that celebrity news website TMZ says it obtained from Paradis, she writes: "I believe with all my heart that these recent allegations being made are outrageous. In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years." A temporary restraining order was imposed on Depp at the weekend after Heard appeared in court with a black eye, accusing the actor of assaulting her. Heard, who filed for divorce last week, says she has been the victim of repeated attacks. – AFP

Lady Gaga teams up with Mario Andretti

Already a singing partner with Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga found another golden-oldie chart-topper to pair with: racing driver Mario Andretti. Gaga was at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 100th running of the Indy 500 at the weekend. She and 1969 Indy 500 winner Andretti rolled onto the track with the field of 33 drivers before the race in a custom-built, two-seat Indy car. Gaga was a late substitute for country-music star Keith Urban, who was unable to attend after injuring his back. – AP

Scherzinger returning to The X Factor

Singer Nicole ­Scherzinger has reportedly signed a million-pound (Dh5.37 million) deal confirming her return to British talent show The X ­Factor. According to mirror.co.uk, ­Scherzinger has quit the ­Broadway run of Cats to make the TV comeback. The Sun ­newspaper quoted a source as saying: "Simon [Cowell] thinks Nicole is a great asset to the show and is delighted he was able to sign her up, despite the commitments she previously had elsewhere. He wants this year's show to go back to its best and she is very much part of that plan." The 37-year-old singer will join Cowell and returning ­judges Louis Walsh and Sharon ­Osbourne, both 63. – The National

Subhash Ghai gives films to national archive

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has given the negatives of 24 of his films to the National Film Archives of India. Ghai says he feels "blessed" on entrusting the negatives to NFAI, whose mission is to safeguard the heritage of Indian cinema for posterity and act as a centre for dissemination of a healthy film culture in the country. Ghai tweeted: "Felt blessed entrusting negatives of my 24 movies to National Film Archive of India to preserve for 100 years to come." The filmmaker also shared a photograph, in which he is sitting in an office and signing legal documents. Ghai, whose films include Karz, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak and Pardes, did not share the names of the films that he is handing over. – IANS
